These boats were in Porto Torres harbour. I specifically wanted the detail of the small fishing boat in the foreground to be in focus as well as the large ferry in the distance.

This fisherman was on his boat takikng a phone call. I used an aperture setting which gave a soft focus to the background without bluring it completely.

By contrast I used a long focal length and large aperture to focus on this flag and put the backround sharply out of focus.
